These days, she gets to blend her two passions by directing the musicals at her school—helping the next generation find their own love for performing. Andy Riggs

Andy Riggs was raised in Franklin, Indiana, the oldest of ten children. His mother loves to tell the story of how she knew Andy would be a musician before he was even born: whenever music played, Andy would kick her ribs in time, following the melodies as they rose and fell. Andy began playing piano and singing in churches at the age of fifteen. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Performance from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, and is currently completing the final requirements for his Master of Music in Choral Conducting at California State University, Los Angeles. As a singer, Andy has performed on stages throughout the United States and internationally in Norway, Finland, Sweden, Russia, and Ireland. His performance highlights include singing at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Greg Gilpin; appearing as a soloist on the flight deck of the USS Theodore Roosevelt for the U.S. Navy’s Pride celebration; and performing for the San Diego Padres, recording new lyrics to “Jingle Bells” as part of a promotional quartet. Andy has also performed with the Indianapolis Opera Chorus, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, and numerous other ensembles throughout Indiana. In 2016, Andy relocated to San Diego, where he joined the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC). While in San Diego, Andy also served as Director of Music for Pioneer Ocean View United Church of Christ and conducted the Voices of Our City Choir, a choir for individuals experiencing homelessness. Voices of Our City Choir gained national attention on America’s Got Talent. Andy returned to Indianapolis in March 2023 and has since remained an active performer and music director throughout the city. Andy would like to thank Jon Colby for inviting him to be part of this evening and for providing a platform to share his gifts in support of such an important cause.

A Word from Jon Colby…

After the holidays, there’s often a strange quiet. The decorations come down, the calendar flips, and many of us start reflecting on the year behind us and the one ahead. For some, that reflection feels hopeful. For others, it can feel heavy.

Holiday Hangover exists for that in-between space.

This night is meant to offer a little light, a little hope, and a reminder that we’re not alone. It’s a chance to exhale, to be moved by music and stories, and to leave feeling just a bit more connected than when you arrived.

The show is free to attend because joy should be accessible. If you feel moved to give, all donations support The Widows Project, hosted by Reliance Charity in Ghana.

I met Eric Owiredu, who leads Reliance, several years ago while speaking at a virtual conference for young professionals in Ghana and Nigeria. His energy, compassion, and deep commitment to his community were impossible to miss. Since then, we’ve worked together to support individuals and families in hard seasons, build a school restroom, and even rebuild an entire school that had collapsed.

That school was completed shortly before my mom passed away. At Eric’s suggestion, and with the community’s blessing, it was named The Gail Colby School Building. It remains one of the greatest honors of my life.

If you zoom in on this picture, you can even see my mom’s face on the cover of their notebooks. It was done as a surprise for my family to honor her.

The Widows Project provides basic food essentials to elderly widows in Ghana, many of whom are raising their grandchildren while their adult children have left the country in search of work. Last year, this event helped provide support to 150 women. Even then, many had to be turned away. This year, our hope is to help 200.

This project is especially meaningful to me because my mom was a widow for the final 44 years of her life. Supporting widows, in her honor, feels deeply personal.

If you’re able to donate, thank you. If you’re not, please simply enjoy the show. My hope is that this evening brings you joy, helps you feel a little more hopeful about tomorrow, and inspires you to pass that feeling along through your actions and outlook.

We’re really glad you’re here.
